Your Ultimate Geek Life Fall Bucket List: A Seasonal Reset for Fandom-Fueled Living

Let's spread the geekiness!

TLDR: Fall isn’t just Pumpkin Spice and orange leaves. It’s a whole vibe – a shift in mood and tone that makes us all want to spend more time doing more cozy things. It’s a great time to refresh and recharge, and this is just as true for the geeks of us who want to live our fandoms more fully. So I’m bringing you a comprehensive list for all things fall that will help you bring in the season and reset to romanticize your fall. Here’s your Geek Life fall bucket list and ways to reset your mind and home for the cozy season.

Yes, these are all our pumpkins for decorating. Mind your business, it’s not as many as you think! lol

Hello, there, Fall

Fall is here! Officially, I mean. Not that Summerween stuff that had us all confused about which month we were in. I’m talking about the cooler weather, shorter days, and seasonal decor. If you blink, you’ll miss it and start to hear Mariah Carey flying in on her sleigh singing ‘All I Want for Christmas…’

Too soon? Yeah, I know.

For now, think cozy decor, spooky games, and seasonal nostalgia. Whether you’re a gamer, a reader, a collector, or just someone who really loves to watch Hocus Pocus every year, there is something here for you. This isn’t just a fall to-do list. It’s a list of ways to romanticize your geek life – one pumpkin-scented candle and fandom movie marathon at a time.

But how do I romanticize Fall?

We hear this phrase a lot: ‘romanticize your life’. But what does it even mean to romanticize something? The most obvious response is to behave and treat everyday experiences in a more romantic way. In fact, the dictionary points out that the idea of romanticizing something is to treat it in an idealized way, or to make something seem better than it really is.

Don’t listen to Miriam Webster. She’s being rude.

For the sake of this post, let’s not look at it as an unrealistic notion, an aesthetic, or falsely creating a picture-perfect life. This isn’t social media – it’s real life. Instead let’s treat ‘romanticize’ like a mindful way to experience something – being present in a moment and taking the time to enjoy the experience.

So to sum it up: romanticizing something – specifically fall –  is simply being in the moment and finding joy in those moments.

And, for the record, we can romanticize our geek as well. Let’s put a pin in that for a future blog, shall we?

Why should I reset for Fall?

I think it’s important to reset your mind for every new season because every new season brings out a new side of you. But not in a new-year-new-me way because the new year shouldn’t be about overhauling your entire personality. It’s more subtle than that. More like making room for a more experienced you and allowing space for the growth that happens every season, and every year.

Fall always feels more intentional to me. Less hectic and hurried than summer, there’s a need to slow down and step away from the high-energy into a more subdued and restful state of mind. Is it because the days are shorter? Or because the temperature is lower? Maybe it’s the need to find comfort in blankets and sweaters with lit candles and aromatic tea. Whatever it is, autumn feels like an invitation to look inward and be more mindful; to embrace a slower pace.

So when I refer to a fall reset, I mean making time and space for those small and subtle rituals that make us feel more present and more tapped into the changes that the season brings. Many of these changes are annual practices that center us and bring us back to ourselves and to the present. For fall, and for many of us, those changes include a slower pace, cozier vibes, and warm feelings of nostalgia. For the geeks in us, we choose activities that bring us closer to the fandoms we love while also making us feel good.

That is romanticizing in its highest form.

So with that being said, let’s talk about some ways to reset your mind and home for fall so you can connect with your inner cozy geek. And because there is so much to do in such a short season, I’ll share a fall bucket list to keep all your geek sides inspired this fall and to help you romanticize the season.

This Geek Life Fall Reset

Declutter and refresh your geek space

I can’t even describe how our home goes from fresh spring clean to convention-clutter in a manner of weeks, but by the time fall rolls around there are remains of fabric, foam, and badges everywhere. So a complete fall cleaning is in order. I wrote a post on how to refresh your home for fall – you can find it here. But the quick and dirty version is to clean.

Spring cleaning isn’t just for spring, so grab your duster and vacuum and clear the clutter to make room for cozy season. We can’t decorate until it’s all clean. Believe me, it’s worth it!

Make cozy cooking your unique skill

There is nothing better than a cooking anime! Except warm recipes that make you feel cozy all season long. Fall soups, fruits, and sweets are even better because we enjoy them once a year. So try some new recipes to nourish your soul this season. Switch to apples and other fall fruits. And definitely try some sweet and spicy desserts to lighten your mood.

Me? I’m definitely making our annual Taco Soup to enjoy after we decorate. But a new recipe I’m just dying to try is Sanji’s Marine Captain Curry (from One Piece, the anime). I found a couple of recipes that I want to research and try, and I will definitely let you know how it turns out and which recipes I used if you’re interested!

(Let me know in the comments if you’d like me to share any recipes on this blog. It isn’t a food blog, but I do try a lot of the recipes I see in anime I love. And I own some cookbooks made from the shows we love).

Find time for your morning ritual

I find my mornings to be extremely valuable to me. Especially the weekends. Waking up earlier than anyone else, making coffee or tea, and taking time to sip and think… or play a cozy video game… or draw… it’s the space I need to be in my head and sort it all out before hubs wakes up.

Granted, I have no human children to take care of, so if you do your mornings will look very different from mine and our two puppies. Maybe only slightly lol. But I believe that trying to take at least one morning of the week to create a personal morning ritual will help to set the tone for the rest of the day and help reset your mind for fall.

Whether it’s listening to music, getting lost in a video game, reading that book you put down a while ago, or working out – having that time to yourself is vital for mental and emotional well-being. In my opinion, of course – I am not a licensed professional! lol If you’d like some tips on what to do and how to begin creating your own morning ritual, check out my weekend morning ritual post, here. It will make a huge difference in your life!

Reflect to reset

This is such a good time to start or restart journaling, pick back up your sketchbook, or set goals for the season. Take time to just reflect on the things you’ve accomplished, things you’d like to try or do, and then make a plan to work towards those goals.

Make health a priority

As the pot, I’m calling us all out. We need to move more and use less excuses to do so. In words it sounds great, but in practice it’s not always that easy. I hate heat, I have intense allergies, I work myself to exhaustion, and so as a result my exercise routine takes a major hit. But now is the perfect time to find a way to move our bodies in a way that fits our personal style and brings us joy, not guilt or pain.

With cooler weather – at least here in the oven of the south – there’s no reason not to start walking outside again. Except maybe ragweed and pollen. Either way, let’s make a pact with each other to move our bodies more this season, and to do it with intention and care. Not because we hate our bodies, but because our bodies do so much for us.

Reassess your closet

I love fall and winter clothes. And I bet I would love them even more if I lived in a place with actual seasons and cold weather, but that never stops me from cuddling up in sweaters, tights, and boots as much as possible.

Lately, I have been working on my closet – assessing my clothes and deciding if they even fit my style. I’m choosing subtle and stylish clothing that fits my personal style and gives quiet nods to the fandoms and characters I love. When my capsule-geek-closet is all set, I’ll share it with you. But for now, switch out your summer clothes for cozier winter clothes.

Your clothing should reflect your personality and make you feel good. Keep that in mind as you look through your clothes to decide what stays and what goes away. Look forward to a fall capsule closet how-to post for subtle fandoms coming in a couple weeks!

Your Geek Life Fall Bucket List

And now the list. This isn’t a to-do list for all the things you have to check off this season. It is simply inspiration for you to fill your fall with amazing experiences and lasting memories. I hope you find some things on this list to inspire you!

For the Gamer:

  1. Revisit a nostalgic fall-themed game (Hollow Knight, Night in the Woods, Luigi’s Mansion). And don’t worry, I have a recommendations list coming soon of spooky but cozy games for you to try.
  2. Want to have some friends over? Host a mini “Gamer’s Night In” with friends to play board games or couch co-op video games.
  3. Add some fall decor to your gaming setup (LED lights, themed mousepads, cute mugs)
  4. Build your dream fall island in Animal Crossing or design a cozy build in The Sims.

For the Seasonal Decor Geek:

  1. Decorate with subtle fandom nods: potion bottles for Harry Potter, floating candles, and pumpkins. If you like DIY, I have a fun Pumpkin King DIY here:
  2. Swap out wall art with seasonal prints from your favorite fandoms.
  3. Light fandom-inspired candles that match your decor.
  4. Create a “Fandom Fall Vibe Shelf” with figures, cozy books, and spooky elements
  5. DIY a wreath or garland with geeky touches (hobbit leaves? Marvel colors?)
  6. Switch out your summer florals for fall arrangements to put on your entry table or dining room table. Don’t forget to use colors to match those fall favorites, like green and black for Beetlejuice, Red and Pink for Hazbin Hotel, or Black, white, and orange for a modern spin on the Nightmare Before Christmas.

Shopping for seasonal decor with a unique fandom twist? I got you! Check out the shop for subtle home decor with a nod to some of our favorite spooky fandoms. You can find limited time wall prints, candles, mugs, and throw pillows to match your fandom. Don’t see your fandom? Send me your suggestions and I’ll work on it for future spooky shop drops.

For the Cozy Geek:

  1. Start a seasonal rewatch of your comfort shows and movies. Shows like Buffy, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Agatha, Coraline, and Spirited Away are perfect for fall and spooky season.
  2. Try flavored teas to invite warmth into your cozy! I have been obsessed with Dryad Tea lately. We discovered them at DragonCon and I can’t get enough of the Alice in Wonderland teas. They have themed teas, gifts, mugs, and TTRPG (tabletop role playing games)-themed gifts.
  3. Read (or re-read) a fantasy book or graphic novel. And you have to read it snuggled under a blanket. Because cozy. And remember – romanticize all the things! I’m re-reading The Ancient Magus Bride and loving every page.
  4. Update your fall playlist with fandom-inspired lo-fi beats or game soundtracks. Don’t forget to check out the playlist I created full of soundtracks from our favorite spooky shows. I update it regularly with new songs.
  5. Journal or plan in a fandom-themed notebook or bullet journal. I collect journals from small artists in the Artist Alley at conventions, and then decorate them with stickers I buy from other artists (at Conventions). If you’d like, I’ll link some of my favorite small *human* artists – just let me know in the comments!

For the Movie-Lovers:

  1. Create a spooky season watchlist. Include horror (if that’s your thing), Halloween-themed episodes or television shows (like WandaVision), and animated classics. And yes, I will absolutely have a post coming up with my coziest (non-horror) anime that I am loving this season!
  2. Host a themed movie night and give them cute names like “Witchy Wednesdays” or “Studio Ghibli Saturdays”.
  3. Curate a “Geeky Halloween Fanathon” — think Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Coraline, Ghostbusters, What We Do in the Shadows, and even Scooby-Doo.
  4. Try a “Secret Spooky” movie exchange where you watch one of your friends’ favorite fall or spooky-season movies and then talk about it.

Bonus Bucket List Ideas that aren’t really geeky, but we’re making it so:

  1. Visit a fall festival or pumpkin patch in fandom attire (or subtle closet cosplay)
  2. Make a fandom-themed costume or DIY accessory for spooky season
  3. Attend a fall con or local geek event
  4. Take fall photos in your favorite fandom-inspired outfit
  5. Write or read fanfic with a seasonal twist
  6. Bake fandom-themed fall treats (Hobbit pie, HP pumpkin pasties, Pokémon cookies)

However you spend your fall, I hope this list helps you romanticize your geek life, recharge your inspiration, and find new ways to bring your fandoms into everyday living.

And you know I have a printable for you if you want to have this list to add to your journal or hang up where you can see it.
