As a geeky introvert who has made a grand effort to create a geeky safe space to call home, it’s hard to have people I don’t know over. It’s like allowing the unknown into my home. Who are you? What do you like? What if you hate everything I love? Now you’re in my space and we’re both uncomfortable.

I’ve spent so much of my life trying to fit in and not really being myself that I have completely lost interest in all pretense. So whenever someone wants to come over who doesn’t understand the way of the geek I get a bit of anxiety at having to entertain in my safe space while not completely being myself.

Does anyone feel the same way? How do you entertain when you don’t know someone in your party?

Anime Music for Your Spring Break Playlist, This Geek Life Blog

Your Spring Anime Music Playlist | Geek Music

Let's spread the geekiness!

Ah, Spring is here, and with it comes the pollen and allergies. Haha. I mean that after the colder and darker winter months, spring is like a breath of fresh air for some people. You can see the birds returning and the buds appearing on the trees. It feels lighter, a bit fresher, and there seems to be a renewed energy in the air. Things are coming back to life, and this often gives people a sense of new beginnings. If I’m being honest, I prefer Winter and the darker days. But not for extended periods of time. So while I love gardening and plants, I do tend to suffer a bit more during the early spring because of my allergies. But that doesn’t stop me from appreciating this season and all it has to offer. Like music. And by music, I’m referring to Spring anime music that goes along with the anime I’ve become obsessed with this season.

If you’ve read my music post on how to find music as a fan, then you already know I’m obsessed with geek music! For some reason, I have really been into anime soundtracks and just love finding the openings and closings of the most feel-good anime I watch to add to a playlist so I can hear them all the time. I wanted to share some of those songs with you so you can share my love for geek music and have something fun to listen to during your spring break.

If I’m being honest, this was just another excuse to share some of my recent anime discoveries with you.

Spring Anime Music Playlist

But I do have standards. When it comes to my Spring anime viewing, I tend to go for lighter, cozier anime that leans heavily towards slice of life. I don’t know if it’s the season or the potential of the world coming to an end, but I want to watch anime that makes me feel good. And so the music that goes along with it should be uplifting, as well. But not only that, I want to listen to a refreshing playlist that is as full of life as nature itself. It should be gentle and airy with soft vocals and a bit of that new-season-energy.

So let’s talk about some options for your spring geek music playlist that includes anime openings and closings with bright, upbeat melodic sounds and instrumental accompaniment that makes us feel renewed, hopeful, and a bit nostalgic. Overall, we want to feel a sense of new beginnings while reflecting on the beauty around us.

Wow, I think my band-nerd just reared its head!

The songs below can be found on the sidebar to the right. You can click to listen here or follow me on Spotify to access the entire playlist.

A Galaxy Next Door

This fantasy anime is full of slice-of-life romance that is as sweet as it is subtle. And it’s perfect for spring. The opening and closing songs have an almost childlike innocence that reflects the theme of the show. The simple but melodic sounds have a soft and dreamy vibe that is as heartwarming as it is calming.

Opening Theme: “Tonari Awase” performed by Chinatsu Matsumoto.

Ending Theme: “Near Stella” performed by Shiori Goshiki (voiced by Yu Wakui).

The Apothecary Diaries

I fell in love instantly with this anime when I watched it last year. But even better was the opening and closing songs for the first season. The show itself is very bright and artistic with amazing characters set in a beautifully historical world based on Imperial China during the Tang dynasty. Its music is light but fun with a bit of mystery. And some subtle pop and rock thrown in. The music, like the anime, is calm and reflective.

Surprisingly, the opening for the first part of season one is very upbeat and almost doesn’t quite fit the dreamy vibe of spring. But it works so well that you won’t even mind it. The opening for the second part of season one is very melodic and soft, with a very subtle upbeat chorus.

Opening Theme 1: “Hana ni Natte” performed by Ryokuoushoku Shakai

Opening Theme 2: “Ambivalent” performed by Uru

The closing song for the first part of season one is one I love for the range of the artist and the slightly scratchiness of her voice. It reminds me of some of the soft neo-soul-pop sound of the late 90’s and I love the sound. As for the second part of season one, it starts with a soft Asian-inspired sound, and the band combines that sound with a ranged slow but upbeat song with a slight hint of rock. It has a lot going on, but it sounds so good.

Closing Theme 1: “Aikotoba” performed by Aina the End

Closing Theme 2: “Ai wa Kusuri” performed by Wacci

The Ancient Magus’ Bride

I’m not sure that I can say enough amazing things about this anime; though I realize it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. This is definitely a bit dark, much like Black Butler, but less harsh in its darkness. It discusses topics that can be a bit sensitive, but depicts those topics in a seamlessly beautiful way. I know we are here to talk about the music, but I’m just so fond of these characters and the story. Season one was epic, but season two did not disappoint in the least. This anime goes through all the seasons and holidays, but it is mostly bright with flowers and plants – very much like spring.

As for the music – well, it is just as beautifully dark and mysterious as the anime. The music is warm and melodic (a word I seem to use quite often in this post lol). I found the songs to be calming and even a bit whimsical, with lots of instrumental and vocal range. I’m not a music expert, so this is all based on how I felt as I was listening. There is a short acapella section of the opening that seems to hold your breath as you listen – exhaling only when the instruments are heard again. It is quite literally breathtaking. There is a mix of flute, piano, and other soft instrumentals all throughout these songs.

Opening Theme 1: “Here” performed by JUNNA

Opening Theme 2: “You” performed by May’n

Ending Theme 1: “Wa –cycle-” performed by Hana Itoki

Ending Theme 2: “Tsuki no Mou Hanbun” performed by AIKI and AKINO from bless4

Konohana Kitan

It’s an anime about fox girls working at a hot spring hotel. I didn’t know what to think at first, but the warmth and love that this anime exudes made me feel so very nostalgic for a serenity I don’t think I’ve ever known. It’s a sweet and innocent story of love, friendship, and loyalty. That is how I would sum it up.

The music is just as warm, cozy, and soft. Its serene and gentle notes and beautiful music will touch your soul and make you wish spring would never end. New beginnings is definitely the theme of both this anime and the songs.

Opening Theme: “Kokoro ni Tsubomi” performed by Eufonius

First Ending Theme: “Summer Love Fireworks” performed by unknown

Second Ending Theme: “Spring is Coming and I’ll Bloom With You” performed by Konohatei Waitress Association

Third Ending Theme: “A Walk Through the Crimson Sky and the Dancing Autumn Leaves” performed by Ai Kasumi and Manami Numakura

Fourth Ending Theme: “On the Way Home Snowflakes Sparkling” performed by Yuzuko Ohno and Sawato Hata

Fifth Ending Theme: “Four O’Clock – Grass Edge” performed by Yuuko Ohno

Banished From the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live A Quiet Life in the Countryside

You know I couldn’t end this post without at least one isekai! But I found a sweet one with lots of love, friendship, and cozy vibes to make your spring anime watch-dreams come true.

You know how much I love a good isekai!

I am not judgmental of isekai, at all. As long as I go into it knowing what to expect, it’s usually a positive experience for me. Well, I can name one I can’t stand – Re:Zero. Ugh! But that’s another post for another day.

In this anime (with the long name I don’t want to type again), the MC has been banished from his party and decided to retire himself to a small cozy cottage in the countryside. The story is really one about personal growth and starting over; I would say that the title of this anime pretty much sums up the entire show. It oozes with all the spring vibes as he opens an apothecary and romance blooms. There is a bit of fighting – it is, after all, an isekai. But the opening and closing songs are just great for a reflective gentle sound that’s perfect for spring.

Opening Theme 1: “Beautiful Day” performed by Yuinishio

Closing Theme 1: “All the Same” performed by JYOCHO

Opening Theme 2: “Routine Life” performed by Yuinishio

Opening Theme 2: “Guide and Devote” performed by JYOCHO

I have only added season one songs for each anime to the list.

There you have it – five anime with music for the spring season! As usual, I have put all these songs into one playlist and will add to it as I watch more cozy spring anime. Follow me on Spotify and enjoy all the music I’ve saved for you!
